Welcome to “Communicating Environmental Sustainability in Business,” a comprehensive textbook that teaches students and professionals how to effectively communicate planetary sustainability topics in a variety of business sectors. Future corporate leaders, marketers, and communicators must express sustainable practices and principles as the worldwide emphasis on environmental responsibility intensifies.

This textbook emphasizes real-world applications and industry-specific situations offering a unique combination of academic and practical insights. Readers will examine sustainability issues and communication methods in energy, food/agriculture, water/beverages, fashion, health/beauty, and other sectors in informative and engaging chapters. Each chapter introduces terms and theories on business sustainability as well as analyzes communication methods in a variety of industries. Each chapter also presents case studies, self-reflection questions for readers to introspect, discussion questions to engage in groups or as a class, and multiple options for written assignments and presentations. Every chapter in part “A” focuses on specific theories while parts “B” focus on a more specific communication task in an industry relevant to the previous chapter for readers to apply the previous chapter’s theories to a realistic communication method.

Parts “B” have interactive tasks including mission statements, stories, press releases, letters (of intent to collaborate or for sponsorship), business proposals, presentations, and recommendations-based reports for instructors and students. These practical tasks improve verbal and written communication, critical thinking, and collaboration. Students will learn how to examine sustainable practices, create new solutions, and communicate their results to varied stakeholders by participating in these activities.
