Preface
This textbook is designed to supplement courses that cover environmental and business sustainability with prompts to write about and discuss business communication strategies for planetary sustainability. Communication skills are vitally important for any profession — yet no other college textbooks exclusively cover communicating environmental sustainability.
The content is intended to be useful for both a broad-based introductory class on business sustainability and as a useful supplement to other business courses which wish to review communication strategies. The text has enough coverage to serve as the main resource for a semester course because it includes glossaries, review questions, case studies, and links to additional resources in addition to covering a wide range of topics in a uniform manner. Students who cover the material in the book will be acquainted in the language and concepts of sustainability, and will be equipped for further study in sustainable planning, policy, economics, climate, ecology, infrastructure, and more.
Readers accustomed to textbooks that present material from a unitary point of view might be surprised to find in this textbook includes multiple perspectives. Many sections covered in the book are characterized by this diversity of thought. By presenting a variety of viewpoints, we encourage readers to exercise the kind of critical thinking that is necessary for a serious topic such as environmental sustainability.
It is my sincerest hope that this work is shared freely and widely to address the massive environmental challenges of our day as well as long for teaching strategies to help growing business students communicate them.
